Vision and Vestibular Systems, Development, and Intervention Strategies for Clinical Application in Pediatric Settings
Presented by: Bailie Hardin, MOTR/L
We will discuss the hallmarks of deficits in the vision and vestibular systems of children and take a specific focus on assessment tools and launching points for beginning appropriate intervention. Participants will review typical anatomy and development of vision and vestibular systems, including their important functional coordination. Strategies for assessment of these systems, making appropriate referrals to and developing a working relationship with a developmental optometrist, and developing and implementing a plan for treatment will be presented. Participants will learn to progress intervention and coordinate with pediatric optometry and other disciplines to support childrens’ engagement and success in daily self care, play, social, and academic tasks.
